FAMILIARS Version 1.5 19950711 None of this is much use unless you have (or get) the official manuals, but you might find it interesting anyway. These familiars are designed to be based on a normal animal. NOTE(1): The level of a familiar if denoted by F, and is 1 + 1 for every 3 levels gained by its master since it was recruited. The maximum level a familiar can reach is equal to one third of the masters intelligence. NOTE(2): Upon the death of a familiar, the master loses the number of levels specified by it's type, and must save vs death or permanently lose one point of constitution. Standard Familiar Alignment: This should be the same, or at most one place removed from that of the Master. Hit Dice: Fd4 Armour Class: 6 THACO: 20 Attack: 1d(F) Saves: As zero level creature. Intelligence: 2+F Spell Ability: None, but the presence of a familiar gives the master a bonus spell point. Enhanced Senses: The familiar has two acute senses, chosen so as to be appropriate to the type of creature. For example, a crow might have keen sight and hearing. The master gains a +2 bonus to any die roll related to these senses if the familiar is within 20+20xF meters. Special: The familiar also has one minor special ability, for example, a toad may be able to inflict a poisonous bite, once a day, for F hit points damage. Familiar Death: One level Augmented Abilities: THIEF Abilities are as a standard familiar, except where noted. Armour class: 5 THACO: As thief of level F. Saves: As Thief of level F. Thief abilities: As Thief of level F. Intelligence: 3+F Familiar Death: Two levels Augmented Abilities: MAGIC Abilities are as a standard familiar, except where noted. THACO: As a MU of level F. Saves: As a MU of level F. Spell points: F Spells known: total rank = (3F-1)/2 Intelligence: 4+F, but for the purposes of the casting roll, equal to the INT of its master. An INT roll must be made sucessfully for the familiar to independantly cast a spell appropriately; unless it is to defend itself, when it will always be cast. THACO: As a MU of level F. Familiar Death: Three levels
